The Old St Henri Church

St Henri Church was built in 1880, replacing a chapel that dated back to 1810. The Church was torn down in 1969 to make way for the new high school.  Note the statue of St Henri just below the middle spire in the picture above. from Collection Bibliotheque Nationale, Quebec.  Many pieces of the old church were saved by residents as keepsakes.   The statue of St Henri ended up in a Quebec City museum. The stained glass windows are still kept in a private garage in St Henri.

The Sainte Elizabeth Church

The Sainte-Élizabeth-du-Portugal Church on Courcelle was not used for services since 2001. It fell into disrepair and was sold to FTQ's real estate arm (Solim) in 2005. It became a favourite hangout for local kids and firebugs. It was finally torn down in May 2008. Although the building was not particularly interesting from an architectual point of view, the church is actually the third church built on this site. The fist church is thought to date back to 1810. Solim wants to build new condos while the borough is pushing them to build social housing on the site.

The Sainte-Cunégonde Church

The Sainte-Cunégonde Church was built on the former site of the a Protestant church between the years of 1877 and 1885 on Iberville Square. The Church was destroyed by a fire in 1904 and rebuilt by 1907. The presbytery next door dates back from the 1880's. The municipality Saint Cunégonde seperated from St Henri in 1875 and existed briefly before being annexed by the City of Montreal in 1905.
